The Isle of
Skye.
Today is the day. Jagged pinnacles, impossible light, colours that don't look real — the Isle of Skye is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and today we drive right into the heart of it. It's a long day in the coach, but every single mile earns its keep.

A Landscape That Doesn't Look Real
There's a reason Skye keeps turning up in fantasy films and "most beautiful places on Earth" lists — nowhere else quite looks like this. Jagged black spires, impossibly green valleys, and light that shifts by the minute make this one of Europe's most photographed islands, and today you'll see it from the coach window as a Local Specialist guides us through its highlights.
→
A Volcano's Legacy
Skye's dramatic Cuillin Ridge and jagged pinnacles like the Old Man of Storr were born some 60 million years ago, when volcanic activity split the North Atlantic apart, sending lava flowing across the island in layer after layer of black basalt.
→
Carved by Ice
Long after the volcanoes fell silent, successive ice ages ground and carved that same basalt into the sweeping glens, sharp ridgelines and hanging valleys you'll see today — a landscape quite literally sculpted by ice over hundreds of thousands of years.
→
The Cuillin Ridge
Skye's black, saw-toothed mountain range is made almost entirely of gabbro, an unusually rough volcanic rock — which is exactly why it's a magnet for serious climbers from all over the world.

Portree

Portree harbour, Isle of Skye
Free Time · Portree, Isle of Skye
Skye's Colourful Little Capital
Wrapped around a sheltered harbour and lined with candy-coloured houses, Portree is the kind of place that looks almost too pretty to be real — which is exactly why it's the perfect spot for lunch. Grab a table by the water, try some fresh local seafood, or just wander the harbourfront and soak in the views before we press on.

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland
Photo Stop Only · Not an Included Visit
Scotland's Most Photographed Castle
Perched on its own tiny island where three lochs meet, and connected to the shore by a graceful stone footbridge, Eilean Donan is quite simply one of the most iconic images of Scotland — you'll almost certainly recognise it, even if you've never been. It's been rebuilt from ruins, starred in countless films, and remains one of the most photographed castles on Earth.
ⓘ
This stop is for photographs only — there won't be time to go inside today. But honestly, the view from the bridge, with the castle reflected in the loch, is the postcard shot everyone comes for anyway.
