🍽️ Tonight · Welcome Dinner

Ristorante Arturo

"Il ristorante come c'era una volta, ancora c'è."
A restaurant like they used to be — and miraculously, still is. Tonight we eat at Arturo all'Antica Aurelia, a Roman institution for nearly 60 years, just a short walk from our hotel. What began as a simple fraschetta — a few wooden tables in a garden where labourers from the neighbourhood would share bread and wine — has become one of Rome's most beloved dining rooms. The garden is still there. The warmth is still there. The food has only gotten better.
Tonight's Menu
Fixed menu · Included in your tour
🌊
Welcome
Glass of Prosecco
The perfect start. Italian bubbles to toast the beginning of a beautiful journey — Cin cin!
🍳
Antipasto
Cold Meats & Fried Vegetables
Roman antipasto at its finest — cured meats, seasonal vegetables fried in a light batter. Simple, honest, delicious.
🍝
Primo · Pasta
Cacio e Pepe
One of Rome's three sacred pastas. Pecorino Romano, black pepper and spaghetti — nothing else. Its apparent simplicity conceals decades of technique. Unmissable.
🍗
Secondo · Main
Turkey Escalope with Porcini Mushrooms
Tender escalope with earthy porcini — a beautiful combination of Italian countryside flavours. The porcini season in Italy is something to behold.
⚠️ Not a mushroom fan? Please let Carmela know before the tour so she can arrange an alternative with the restaurant in advance. WhatsApp or email is perfect — she will sort it.
🎂
Dolce · Dessert
Panna Cotta
The perfect end. Silky-smooth panna cotta with your choice of chocolate or fruit topping. Italy in a spoon.
🇺🇸 A Note on Italian Food Culture
  • This is just the beginning. Over the next 9 days we will eat extraordinarily well — from truffle hunts in Umbria to the world's best gelato in San Gimignano, and a Florentine bistecca that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about steak.
  • Italy does not have regions — it has food kingdoms. Each province has its own pastas, its own cheeses, its own way of doing things. Pay attention to everything Carmela tells you about what you're eating and where it comes from.
  • The wines are equally extraordinary. Orvieto Classico in Umbria, Chianti in Tuscany — we will be drinking very well indeed.

🛒 Shopping in Rome

Rome's Finest Streets & Markets

🏛️
🌱 Sunday Market
Porta Portese Market
One of Rome's great institutions — and if you happen to be in Rome on a Sunday, this is unmissable. Dating back to 1945, this vast flea market stretches along the Tiber in Trastevere and sells everything from vintage clothes and antiques to street food and handmade jewellery. Thousands of Romans come here every week. It is chaotic, colourful, and absolutely authentic — a living piece of Roman history. Sundays only, 7am–2pm.
🚬
Via del Corso
Rome's main high street — stretching from Piazza del Popolo to Piazza Venezia, lined with familiar international brands alongside Italian favourites. Great for a brisk shopping walk through the heart of the city.
👑
Via dei Condotti
Rome's answer to the Champs-Élysées. Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Valentino — the world's great luxury houses line this magnificent street near the Spanish Steps. Even if just for window shopping, walking Condotti is an experience.
🎨
Via del Babuino
Connecting Piazza del Popolo to the Spanish Steps, this elegant street is known for antique dealers, independent galleries and high-end boutiques. Quieter and more refined than Condotti — for those who prefer to browse at their own pace.

Carmela's Essential Tips

💡 Carmela's Departure Day Checklist
  • Keep your passport, boarding pass and e-documents in a carry-on — never in checked luggage.
  • Wear comfortable shoes — Rome's cobblestones are beautiful but uneven.
  • Churches and the Vatican have a dress code: covered shoulders and knees. Pack a scarf or light layer.
  • Italy uses Type L plugs — bring a universal adapter for charging.
  • € Euro is the currency throughout the tour. ATMs are widely available at FCO airport and in Rome.
  • Pickpockets are active near major attractions. Keep bags in front, use a money belt for cards.
  • WhatsApp Carmela if you have any questions before arrival: +44 7746 446479.
