Blarney Castle & Gardens

The Rock Close waterfall, Blarney Castle Gardens
Included · Blarney, County Cork
Genuinely, Properly Magical
There's a reason Blarney has captured imaginations for centuries — this isn't just a castle, it's a whole world of legend. Climb the spiral stairs to lean backwards over the battlements and kiss the famous Blarney Stone (said to grant the "gift of the gab"), then lose yourself in the genuinely enchanting grounds below. Give yourself time here — the castle is only half the story.
→
The Witch's Stairs & Witch's Kitchen
Tucked into the Rock Close, a steep, atmospheric stone stairway said to be used by Blarney's resident witch — well worth the climb for the eerie, otherworldly feel of the place.
→
The Wishing Steps & Druid's Cave
Ancient stone steps and a mysterious cave tucked among mossy boulders and towering trees — local legend says a wish made here (eyes closed, in silence) is bound to come true.
→
The Gardens
Beyond the castle, the grounds unfold into fern gardens, a poison garden, and the Rock Close — a fern-draped, waterfall-fed woodland that feels genuinely enchanted. Don't rush off after the castle; the gardens are not to be missed.

Irish Folklore

The Fair Folk

Classic painting of Irish fairies in a garden
A Little Irish Magic
Mind the Fairy Ring
Somewhere between Blarney's mossy gardens and the countryside rolling past your window, it's worth knowing: Ireland takes its fairies seriously. Known in Irish folklore as the Aos Sí ("people of the mounds"), fairies here were never the sweet, winged garden ornaments of modern imagination — they were powerful, unpredictable beings to be respected, and very much not crossed.
→
Fairy Rings & Raths
Circular mounds and rings of trees, scattered across the Irish countryside, were long believed to be fairy dwellings. Even today, some farmers still refuse to plough through them — better safe than sorry.
→
Lone Hawthorn Trees
A solitary hawthorn standing alone in a field is said to mark a gateway to the fairy world — cutting one down, tradition warns, brings very bad luck indeed.
→
A Wish at the Wishing Steps
Blarney's own Wishing Steps carry a whisper of the same old magic — close your eyes, keep your thoughts to yourself, and who knows.

Waterford Crystal

Waterford Crystal showroom
Included · Waterford City
Centuries of Irish Craftsmanship, Up Close
Founded in 1783, Waterford Crystal is one of the most famous names in fine glassware anywhere in the world — and today you'll see exactly why. Our factory tour takes you right onto the workshop floor to watch master craftsmen blow, cut, and engrave molten crystal by hand, using techniques that have barely changed in over two centuries. It's a genuinely mesmerising piece of living Irish heritage, and the showroom afterwards is dazzling.
