Crossing to
Ireland.
If you ask Carmela, this is the best part of the whole trip. Today we say farewell to Britain by way of the beautifully preserved Roman city of Chester, sail across the Irish Sea, and land in Dublin — a city of music, warmth, and the best craic you'll find anywhere — for a welcome dinner in the heart of Temple Bar.

A Message From Carmela
"Today we say goodbye to Britain and hello to my favourite part of the entire trip. There is something about landing in Ireland — the warmth, the welcome, the music that seems to spill out of every pub — that I never get tired of. I can't wait for you to feel it too."

Chester

Chester, England
Free Time · Chester, England
A Roman City Frozen in Time
Founded by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago, Chester is one of the best-preserved walled cities in Britain — and one of the most charming stops on the whole tour. You'll have free time to explore its famous black-and-white timbered Rows (two-tiered covered galleries of shops unique to Chester), walk a stretch of the nearly-complete Roman and medieval city walls, or just wander the cobbled streets with a coffee in hand. A perfect, gentle start to a very big day.
→
The Rows
A unique, centuries-old double layer of shops and walkways found nowhere else in Britain quite like this — half the fun is just wandering up and down them.
→
The City Walls
Chester's walls form a nearly complete two-mile circuit around the old city — one of the best-preserved Roman/medieval wall walks in the country.

The Crossing

Irish Ferries ship
Irish Ferries · Irish Sea
Ireland, Straight Ahead
Our coach boards the Irish Ferries vessel right along with us — you can leave everything on board and simply walk off the coach and up onto the ship. From there, the whole ferry is yours to explore for the crossing: cafés, restaurants, comfortable lounge seating, even a shop for tax-free goods. It's less "ferry crossing" and more "mini cruise."
📱
Turn off your roaming data! The moment we're out at sea, your phone may connect to a maritime or foreign network and rack up serious roaming charges. Switch to airplane mode (with WiFi on, if the ferry offers it) before we depart — your wallet will thank you.
🚌
The Coach Comes Too
Our coach is loaded directly onto the ferry, so you can leave your belongings safely on board and head upstairs to enjoy the ship — no need to carry bags around.
☕
Cafés, Restaurants & Seating
Plenty of options on board to grab a bite, a coffee, or just settle into comfortable seating with a book and a sea view — a great time to have lunch, since we won't stop again until Dublin.
🍼️
Upgrade Your Crossing
Fancy a bit more comfort? You can upgrade to the panoramic lounge for extra space and quiet, or — if you're tired and want to properly rest — book a private cabin for around €40. Ask at the information desk when you board.
🛍️
Tax-Free Shopping
The onboard shop sells a range of tax-free goods — perfect for browsing during the crossing if you're after a bargain.

Your First Taste of Dublin — and What a Start
There is genuinely no better place to have your very first meal in Ireland than Temple Bar — Dublin's cobbled, colourful cultural quarter, alive with music spilling out of every doorway. We're dining at Merchant's Arch, right at the entrance to Temple Bar by the Ha'penny Bridge, with live traditional music, warm hospitality, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you understand immediately why people fall in love with this city.
🎵
Live Traditional Music
Expect a proper Irish trad session — fiddles, songs, and the kind of energy that makes it very hard to stay in your seat.
🏊
Right by the Ha'penny Bridge
After dinner, it's a short stroll to one of Dublin's most photographed landmarks, lit up beautifully after dark.
🍸
The Heart of Temple Bar
Cobbled lanes, colourful pub fronts, and Dublin's liveliest cultural quarter — all right on your doorstep tonight.
